Slowww 'ish Saturday Vibes

 Feliz sábado!

For many years, I adhered to a more military weekend style (whether in the form of athletics, volunteering or work). Nowadays, I enjoy a more weekend relaxed pace, if it’s available to me.. and have realized gosh, these military variations of Saturdays are overrated.

It's not to say I won't ever train again for an athletic event, but I definitely won't return to the "Subservient Stepford Overextended" Bay Area wife lifestyle. If I compete at an event again, I will train and compete under much different circumstances.

A few, fun recent Saturday activities for me have involved me taking a greater interest/deep dive into my BF's favorite things to do. He's offered me an “unexpected bucket list” in a sense, and it's been adventurous, fun & relaxing - sometimes getting to experience all of these elements, at the same time.

In terms of age reflection, both my younger self at age 15 and older self at age 39 would have never predicted where I am today - EVER! My BF is a native of SoCal and while we have similarities, we have had many different experiences, providing us almost endless conversation topics. The first time I met him in early Summer of 2024, I immediately recognized joy in his eyes and soul and gosh, what a journey it has been for the both of us, navigating unfortunate ex situations, doors closed and other challenges.

He's introduced me to the low rider scene, Soul Food, fashion and so much more!

When I first got on the back of his Harley four months ago, I joked how my 'Flight or Fight' system was working again. As you could maybe estimate, after all I've been through, it takes a lot to shake up my nervous system. As one of my recent roommates mentioned: you have to trust the rider a ton to feel comfortable on a bike like that! Sure do.

Whatever you get up to today, enjoy it! And remember, no bad company is worth your peace of mind.

*Also, today’s post is dedicated to one of my most fun, skilled and competitive former triathlon teammates, Vaugn. Vaugn recently offered me a slot in his Austria triathlon event this year, which is very kind, but not in my cards at the moment {to say the least! :-)}. We lost touch over the years, when he moved back to Armenia from the SF Bay Area. I will never forget how he swam without a wetsuit during a fast IM finish in a lake setting (showcasing serious strength!) and also crushed our entire triathlon team at laser tag several years ago. His high score made more sense to me when I found out he had served in the Armed Forces of Armenia! Sending well wishes to him and his entire family.

With Aloha,

Heidi
