Taco Tuesday: Martes de Tacos
Aloha!
One of my most favorite, casual meals to eat with friends are tacos. So simple, yet so delicious! When I moved to SoCal last fall, enjoying tacos with a few friends happens quite often, as there is a lot of hispanic food in the surrounding neighborhoods, with hispanic/latino make up a large portion of the population. Per USAFacts.org: "Between 2010 and 2022, the share of the population that is Hispanic/Latino grew the most, increasing 4.1 percentage points to 44.5%.”
Recently, I tried lengua tacos for the first time - and they were tasty! I had been reluctant to try this type of meat in my taco (mostly because it sounded weird to me - haha!), but true to my friend's advice... it was so good. When I lived in San Francisco in the late 2000s, I'd often pair a salty-rimmed margarita for a fun happy hour and after becoming a cyclist in 2011, I could extra appreciate the post-ride salty refreshment!
While the exact origins/credits of Taco Tuesday is highly debated (with some claims dating back to 1933), one thing remains today: tacos make a delicious, low-cost meal for many! And margaritas -> a tasty accompaniment. As we say in California: we salt our margaritas with salt, not the sidewalks :) Always makes me laugh to think of that sentiment, and as much as I love visiting Boston in the winter for nostalgic reasons, I could never go back and live in the snow - it can get quite intense! One of my friends grew up in Detroit and we often laugh at the fact we could never live full time in the snow again!
Whether you craft homemade tacos like I used to do (using Siete almond-flour shells - the best!), swing by Del Taco or your favorite food truck, enjoy!
Bon Appétit!
