Extra Bonus Blog: Alex!

 Aloha Reader,

In the spirit of good souls I've met during my lifetime, sharing with you some tidbits about a very kind man I met over 17 years ago. Alex, originally from the Los Angeles area, worked at the Benefit Cosmetics counter on Chestnut Street in the Marina District in San Francisco, California.

At the time I met Alex, I was working many exhausting hours at WTAS LLC, surrounded by beauty and fashionistas in my workplace (aka: beautiful women). On my walks home from the office, I took a greater interest in fashion, often peeking into storefronts and visiting makeup counters. It was at Benefit Cosmetics where I began to experiment with lash dyes and take a more extensive interest in makeup. Alex, who infused his joyful spirit in everything he did, became an immediate friend of mine. I learned all about his elaborate upbringing (sometimes splurging on $1k for 24k Gold facials!) and also appreciated his social challenges as an openly gay man. We became almost instant best friends and I'll always remember the times we spent together, often gabbing at brunch over bottomless mimosas or light shopping at the Westfield San Francisco Centre.

When I moved apartments from the Marina District to Nob Hill, I'll never forget his thoughtful "moving day" suggestion of placing a clear plastic water pitcher on the kitchen counter for friends to autograph, as they lugged boxes up to my 3rd floor apartment on Washington Street. A very cool, low-cost keepsake!

A fun fact about me & Alex-> We purchased the same-size jeans in 2009 from the Justin Timberlake collection (William Rast) and I still have them to this day! I fondly refer to them as my "rockstar" jeans and when I am slim enough to fit in them, I wear them with pride. Only problem is I never bought a belt to go with them, so I always had to be careful wearing them/bending in public! That does seem to be a common problem for skinny rockstars, though... right? 'Slippin' off the hip' jeans!

With Good Vibes & Sweet Dreams,

Heidi
