Professional Athletes Highlight: ‘lil John
Aloha Reader,
From a reflective gratitude standpoint, one of the many members of the Bay Area triathlon team that I thought about recently, in a good light, is a person named John. To clarify, not John Rollins... I've met many Johns on my journey. This John's name may actually be spelled: "Jon". At this time, I can't recall the correct spelling - it's been a while since we've connected, but let’s go with John, for purposes of this article. :)
Often referred to as "''lil John", due to his small frame and weight, and poked fun by at by several larger team members, he actually used to be a professional fighter and never spat back at these trash males. At least in my presence, but then again, as a gentleman, maybe he bit his tongue and told them off on the sidelines.
Over one of our many conversations, he shared the stressful weigh-in process he'd go under, before a match. He told me at one point, being 104 pounds would be considered overweight and he couldn't compete in his class.
Although I understood what he meant, his statement struck me as funny, when I thought about his weight in relation to my weight, which women often do, as a natural response. My steady, fluctuating, healthy triathlon racing weight was between ~142-147 pounds as a competitive 5'7 female (to summarize, in my late 30s/40s, I was almost 50 pounds heavier than his natural weight, I thought to myself!)
For complete transparency, when I competed at my first Ironman in Couer d'Alene, Idaho, in 2013, I weighed in at 135 pounds. I share this information because it's about time real, healthy women athletes share numbers, for the sake of cultivating a healthy environment for our females worldwide. Pro or not! :)
Last I knew, John was employed at Sequoia Hospital, where my son was traumatically delivered in 2016 (another malpractice suit I could file - against beyond criminal Dr. William Liu and his entire practice, which he bragged to me about the money he made a few years ago, when he sold it to Stanford Medicine - another not-so-hidden monopoly).
Nowadays, I think of 'lil John because he was often underestimated due to his size and looks (short, petite Asian man), just like me (semi-petite, medium-height blonde woman). True underdogs. With two kids, residing in the Bay Area and woven into the medical madness of California, I do feel he's on my side, but we'll see with the upcoming legal shakeout, won't we? (May 2025 update: turns out this John is just as much a trash male like all of the other team kreepers... not completely surprised, unfortunately. What a miserable, disgusting existence they all live.)
Fun Heidi trivia: The most popular song on the day I was born, July 30th, 1982 was Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. Perfect music accompaniment to my fight, right? Which is actually our collective fight.
With Chill Vibes & High Hopes,
Heidi
